The Perfect Candle for Each Enneagram Type

ADDED BONUS: P.F. CANDLE IS OFFERING UP TO 40% OFF FOR BLACK FRIDAY!

Normally, I hate posts that connect something arbitrary (lattes! Jeans! Halloween candy!) to an Enneagram type. But this particular topic speaks to me because I love candles. While working at home over the last few years, distractions seem inescapable. However, I’ve found mentally taxing tasks, like writing, are easier to focus on when I light a candle with a certain scent profile (this is anecdotal, but there’s ample research to support this idea).

In particular, I love P.F. Candles, and I have for nearly a decade, not only for their lovely scents but also for their quality. Unfortunately, I sometimes have allergic reactions to different fragrances (there’s a certain popular mall store that immediately makes my throat close due to the excessive cologne wafting through it), and some candles can cause a similar reaction. But I’ve never had this reaction to P.F. Candles, and I love them for that.

So, when P.F. reached out and offered me an affiliate commission, it was an easy yes. I already use their products daily! Here’s a bit more about that relationship: this is a blog post of my real thoughts and opinions about their candles. P.F. Candle Co. did not dictate, direct, or approve of this content in any way, nor am I compensated simply for posting here. If you purchase from P.F. Candle Co. using any of the links on this post, I may earn a small commission from that sale. In my daily life, I’m a little ashamed of how much I love this brand, so this is just a way to share that with you with a fun Enneagram twist!

Also, I had fun writing this post. I’m leaning into the task, so it’s a little bit campy and not at all serious (though I am serious about these candles, I would never joke about that). I typically make one large order each year because their Black Friday sale is SO GOOD! This year, you’re getting 40% off.

Alrighty, let’s get into it.

Type One

For Type One, I love Golden Coast. This is one of my personal favorites, and I love the blend of fresh, woodsy, and aromatic scents. The scent has almost a powdery quality to it (like baby powder), but it’s grounded by palo santo and fir. It smells clean, but not in a chemical or trying-too-hard way. It feels like you just opened the windows of your seaside redwood cabin and this beautiful scent drifted in, with hints of eucalyptus and sage and sea salt. It’s perfection. For those of us who don’t have a seaside redwood cabin, this candle will have to do.

Type Two

For Type Two, I love Black Fig. This woody fragrance has a bit of a gourmand quality to it as well. It feels warming and sophisticated, like showing up for dinner at a Two’s home and being welcomed with the best hug of the year. There’s something so cozy about this particular candle. You know that whole “a Two will bring you a pie” concept? I’m basically drawing on that stereotype here, not because I think it’s true of all Twos, but because I think Twos frequently offer the positive, encouraging, loving, warming energy of bringing you a pie, and that’s what Black Fig smells like. Plus, this was my very first P.F. Candle nearly a decade ago, gifted by a type Two friend.

Type Three

For Type Three, I love Piñon. In part, this is because Piñon has long been a staple in my home, and I’m a Three. What draws me to this fragrance is that it feels effortless and causal, like my home just-so-happens to smell perfectly woodsy with a hint of vanilla. I may have spent hours dusting baseboards and scrubbing teeny tiny floor tiles, but you’d never ever know. Plus, there’s something deeply calming about this scent, and trust me, I need that peaceful energy in my life.

Type Four

For Type Four, I love Wild Herb Tonic. When I first smelled it, I thought, “I’ve never smelled anything like this,” and that’s why it reminds me of type Four. This fragrance is unlike any other on this list (perhaps the closest is Ojai Lavender?). The base notes of guaiacwood and patchouli offer depth and intrigue, but it’s also intensely herbaceous with a hint of citrus, too. Someone had a stroke of chaotic creativity in the making of this fragrance, and it turned out wildly distinct and lovely. If that doesn’t sing type Four, I don’t know what does.

Type Five

For Type Five, I love Ojai Lavender. Both Fives and Sixes frequently share with me that they are very sensitive to sensory input and can be easily distracted by a strong scent. Ojai Lavender is nice and light with a very subtle scent throw. It smells like opening an old, well-loved book to find a sprig of lavender tucked inside. Personally, I love a strong fragrance, and this particular one is so delicate that it’s not a frequent flier from my collection, but it’s perfect for Fives who prefer not to be overwhelmed. I can’t imagine anything worse for a Five than the air being overwhelming. Ojai Lavender it is!

Type Six

For Type Six, I love Teakwood & Tobacco. The Sixes in my life love a good, stable, standard, and that’s exactly what Teakwood & Tobacco is. I remember this fragrance from years ago, and it’s just as sophisticated, cozy, and perfectly spicy now as it was then. Plus, the subtle scent throw can accommodate our sensory sensitive Six friends! There’s a sweet, earthy quality from the tobacco leaf and a hint of smoky leather, grounded by woodsy, warm notes. Indeed, you absolutely cannot go wrong with this fragrance, especially if you love warming amber and woodsy sandalwood like I do.

Type Seven

For Type Seven, I love Sweet Grapefruit because there’s something about this fragrance that transports me straight to my happy place. I know it’s just a candle, but I swear it gives me energy? This fragrance fills a room with bright grapefruit, yuzu, a touch of vanilla, and an undercurrent of teak. Because Sevens are bright, but they’ve got depth, and this candle reflects that. It’s like that Anthro candle’s sophisticated cousin. I burn this candle when I’m podcasting or recording YouTube videos because it smells positive, if that’s even possible.

Type Eight

For Type Eight, I love Amber & Moss. This candle is exactly what you’d think. It smells like amber with a fresh top note of moss and a bit of citrus. She is exactly who she says she is, and we love her for it. Even though Eights often love to shake things up, when they find a reliable standard they love, they stick with it and might get a bit irritated if someone comes along and ruins it. I learned this first hand when I made a few little tweaks to Grannie’s mac and cheese recipe and I thought my cousin was going to come across the table at me. This candle will not inspire that reaction. It’s just a f*cking good candle, okay?

Type Nine

For Type Nine, I love Sandalwood & Rose, or for the rose averse, the seasonal Spruce is an excellent choice. Sandalwood & Rose has a similar powdery quality to the Golden Coast candle I mentioned for type One, and it exudes calm, clean, and light. Sandalwood is one of my favorite fragrance notes, and in this candle it blends perfectly for a light but complex floral scent. Spruce is a close second here because this candle feels like plodding through a field of pine trees or sitting by the fire near a fresh Christmas tree with your family. It feels like warmth and togetherness, and Nines love to be cozy and peaceful with their people. This candle evokes that feeling all year long.

Not a fan of burning candles in your home?

I have this candle warmer in my office, and I love it. It has a timer, so when I get in, I set it for a couple hours. Bonus tip: When it automatically switches off, I’m reminded to take a break if I haven’t yet!
